Ascalon and northern shiverpeaks?????? - Guild Wars Forums

Does any1 know why it is that character created in cantha cannot do any of the quests or missions prior to kryta ( ascalon N,shiverpeaks ) i spent ages yesteday running my canthan ranger to ascalon only to find that theres absoltely nothing to do there. And in doing this i now have 6 flashing icons on my map and no ability to do anything about it

and surely this also means character wont be able to get 100% in the tyrian explorer thing am i right seing as places like surmia are inacessable unless u do the missions?
while i absoluely love factions to death i would of liked to be able to "complete" both games with a single character.

You got all the way back to Tyria from Cantha? My lord. Have you slept, eaten, or bathed yourself?

And I gather there isn't any functionality for Tyria yet because, I'm guessing, you haven't completed all the quests and missions for Cantha that may (if they exist) open quests and missions in Tyria.

But I'm sure someone more knowledgable about all this business will add to this.

There is a quest that enables a ship on the map which allows you to travel to Tyria from Cantha and vice versa.

because you are not suposed to play a game you didn't pay for, and aparently limiting faction characters from playing there is the only way to prevent that

I would gather that the reason is, your Cantha character, by the time they are able to get to Kryta, is the same as your Kryta character, level and experience wise, when they can get to Cantha.
I played and got my Cantha char close to going to Kryta and at this point is a level 15, almost 16. Which would be the level of a Kryta char by the time they would get to LA.

If you have watched the video when you arrive at LA, you should notice that it says Rurik is dead and so on. Makes sense that you can't do anything in Ascalon then.
Then again it's the same for Tyrian characters who go to Shing Jea. They can't do any quests or missions there either. The storyline for characters from overseas start at LA or Kaineng Center. Doesn't prevent you from hunting Charr for whatever reason though.

Viruzzz: If you don't own both keys for prophecies and factions you can't travel by boat at all (except to Battle Isles)

I think unfortunately this is intentional, if you start a character on one continent you can only complete the "second half" of the game on the other continent (everything after the port city).

I'm a bit disappointed in this since it seems like you won't be able to get titles for completing all the missions and filling out the map for both continents on a single character, but I can see the logic of it. If you are coming into the continent as level 20 there is no challenge in doing the earlier missions, so they just don't let you try.
